Dragon Ball Super Confirms Vegeta's Strongest Attack is Nothing to Gas

Goku and Vegeta have grown their power immensely throughout Dragon Ball Super, fighting against the multiverse's strongest and training under the guidance of an Angel and a God. Yet, when it comes to the battle with Gas, even those godly techniques haven't proved to be enough.

In Dragon Ball Super, it seems to be fairly normal for the Gods of Destruction across the various universes to take on proteges, such as Top in Universe 11. For universe 7, Beerus has chosen both Goku and Vegeta, and while fans may debate which Saiyan could take on the role someday, Vegeta has certainly taken to some of these destruction abilities faster. Most notably, Vegeta's most powerful form, Ultra Ego, changes his power to be more like that of a God of Destruction, and has enabled him to launch spheres of destructive energy just like Beerus. Thus far in Super, this destructive energy has proven to be the most powerful energy-based attack possible... until now.

In chapter 84 of Super, as Goku and Vegeta return their attention to Gas following his arrival at Planet Cereal once again, both Saiyans assume their ultimate forms--Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego, respectively. To fight Dragon Ball's strongest warrior, Goku and Vegeta give it everything. With their fighting spirits reinvigorated from watching Bardock's recording, Vegeta decides to end the fight quickly by firing one of those Spheres of Destruction. Yet, even knowing that this was a God of Destruction's technique, Gas is unconcerned, and somehow managed to block the attack with one of his energy constructs, making him the first mortal without divine training to do so. The sphere is instead redirected towards a nearby city, forcing Goku to channel it away to save the innocents residing there.

Although Gas is empowered by his brother's ultimate dragon ball wish, it's still pretty bold to attempt to tank an attack at a divine power level. After all, even Earth's dragon, Shenron, was cowering in fear at the mere sight of Beerus; there's no reason to assume that Toronbo would be significantly more powerful. The destructive power even worked on a Supreme Kai in training, in Zamasu's case. so if Gas is able to withstand attacks at this level, then there's really no known technique than can take him down. While Goku and Vegeta didn't quite figure out how Bardock beat Gas the first time around, it might not even matter if he's capable of surviving Destroyer-level attacks now. It's clear that pure power won't be providing a way out of this situation, so Vegeta and Goku, and hopefully Granolah as well, will really have to put their heads together to outsmart Gas and the Heeters instead.

The Dragon Ball series has often fallen into the trap of simply escalating power levels, so this dilemma presents an opportunity for Dragon Ball Super to break the mold when it comes to how villains are defeated. Whether the series will follow through on that remains to be seen.
